Enrollment FAQ

How do I enroll my child in JXCE?
Parents must fill out an application for JXCE’s random admissions lottery via SchoolMint.

When will I know if my student was accepted?
The random admissions lottery will be conducted after the Open Enrollment period has ended. Parents will be notified of their student’s enrollment status soon after the lottery via email. You may log onto the SchoolMint portal anytime to check the student's enrollment status.

Open Enrollment Period
The Open Enrollment period for new students is February 1-28, 2023.

Available Seats

If all available seats are not filled during the Open Enrollment Period, subsequent applications will be accepted and ordered based on the date the application was received and the preferences extended to the applicant. As seats become available, they will be offered to applicants according to this established order until capacity is reached. Afterwards, students will be added to the waitlist.

Are preferences given to certain students in the lottery process?
The priority order in the lottery selection process is:

  • Children of founding board members
  • Children of full-time employees of the school
  • Siblings of enrolled students
  • Students from Duval County
  • Students from other Florida counties

Are my child's test scores or grades considered during the admission process?
No.

If my child is on a wait list, how will I know when admission will be offered?
You will be notified by email/phone or you may log onto the SchoolMint portal anytime to check the student's enrollment status.

What is my child's number on the waitlist?

We do not give out numbers or positions on the waitlist. Please plan to attend your second-choice school as soon as you learn of your waitlisted status.

If my child is selected for admission, is he/she automatically enrolled?
No. You will need to complete the Registration process by submitting all documents within 14 calendar days. If you fail to upload the required information and documentation within the 14 calendar days, your seat will be released to those on the wait list.

If my child is accepted, will they need to participate in the lottery each year?
No. Existing students have priority over new students in the enrollment process and will have the opportunity to re-enroll to ensure their seat is secure for the following school year.

Does the Waiting List carry over into the next school year?
No. Each school-year’s Waiting List starts anew with a fresh lottery, so that everyone has an equal chance of getting in (with the exception of priority list – see priority list above).

Are siblings of current students guaranteed admission?
Siblings of enrolled students will have priority placement during the enrollment process as per Florida Statutes.

How will a sibling of a new student be treated?
Siblings of new students will have priority placement during the enrollment process as soon as the new student's registration process been completed.

Is there an enrollment or application fee?
There are no fees required to apply to or attend the school.

If I donate to the school, will my child be given preferential treatment or be guaranteed a place in the school?
No.

Are children with special needs accepted?
Yes.

What items will be required for registration?
The same items as required for all public schools. Please see the Registration Documents page.

Can I still apply to be admitted this school year if I missed the Open Enrollment Lottery window?

Yes. Your application will be placed at the bottom of your student’s grade applicable priority group (See above for priority groups).  You can always say no to decline an offered seat, but we cannot offer a seat without a submitted application.

What do I do if my child got accepted into more than one school?

If a student receives a lottery selection for more than one school, the parent/guardian must select one and decline the other. All required paperwork must be turned into the school JXCE by the deadline.

Do I need to complete a different application for each of my children?

Yes. Each child that you would like to attend JXCE must have their own application submitted. Please make sure you list all applying siblings on each application, as we cannot guarantee linking without this piece of information being

If I have more than one child and one gets into JXCE, will the other(s) be guaranteed a spot?

Because we are required to enroll based on a lottery system AND our seats are limited, we cannot guarantee enrollment for anyone. However, if you enroll one sibling, the waiting sibling(s) will move up the waitlist. If you are offered a seat for only one sibling, you must be willing to have one at JXCE and the other(s) at a different school until a seat becomes available for the waiting sibling.
